US and EU Sign Unprecedented Agreement on AI
The White House announced on Friday that it had signed an administrative agreement with the European Union on mutual cooperation on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The new agreement builds on existing technology contracts and will prioritise international cooperation, directing AI resources towards specific sectors. The US-EU AI cooperation agreement will reportedly bring AI experts together to address "major global challenges" in a joint development model.
While a statement from National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan does not specify what specific problems the AI cooperation agreement is intended to address, it says the US and EU will jointly focus research efforts on five areas of interest: predicting extreme weather and climate conditions, managing emergency response, health and medicine, optimising power grids, and optimising agriculture.
